Vs1 Round Diamond
Engagement ring knowledge?
I got engaged not too long ago and I’m not too keen on the engagement ring size/cost. I love my ring very much. It’s a 2 carat round cut in tiffany setting with .5 cts of channel set diamonds as the band (so total is 2.5 cts, with 2 cts as the solitaire round cut and .5 ct diamond channel set as the band). The quality of the solitaire is vs1 and F. Since I’ve never paid much attention to engagement rings in general, is this a good size/quality engagement ring compared to the average people?
It is considered large for most circles. A diamond of that size and quality is considered a status symbol.
My wife worked in a hospital and she kept being stopped by the doctors to ask what I did for a living. This is for a 2+ carat diamond in a platinum 6 prong tiffany setting.
So unless you are in Hollywood a good quality 2 carat diamond is not common.
D, E, F, color are consider colorless and look icy white. Near colorless is acceptable to most people also which is G,H,I,J. I would assume F color is better than most, but color is hard to see.
For clarity, Flawless, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2. For jewelery SI2 or better is what you should consider only, it should be eye clean to the untrained eye. VS2 or better will need a 10x loupe. I had trouble seeing inclusions in a SI1 diamond in a loupe. VS1 is a good clarity, but only matters for price and rarity, unless they get a loupe out.
One other thing not mentions is the quality of the cut, this effects the fire or sparkle of the diamond.
